Fascination with Water

chalice.jpgAt an early stage in my life I became fascinated with water. We lived by Lake St. Claire outside of Detroit, Michigan and I loved to go look at the lake and boats. When visiting relatives in Chiago, Illinois going to Lake Michigan, the Chicago Yacht Club and the Chicago Fountain was a must! The fountain was magnificent with rising and falling spires of water that were lit by colored lights. The sights of the fountain were only part of the experience. The sound of the water falling and rising was part of the total experience. The picture here is a carved fountain in Ireland that combined the "gurgle, gurgle" of water falling into the top basin with the "splish, splash" sound of water falling into the primary basin and a "swish, swish" sound of water being swirled out of the upper basin. Quite an accomplishment!

So... We now have a minature waterfall in our backyard for our pond. It gives the "gurgle, gurgle" and "splish, splash" sounds but no "swish, swish". We and the fish love it!waterfall 2.jpg

Quick Timelapse

water lily 3.JPG The day after Independence Day, I was sitting by our pond watching or trying to find our fish. There is a water lily that has one day flowers that look like bright yellow starfish. I noticed there were two buds that would be opening and as I sat there they started to open. It took about 20 minutes for them to open and it was like timelapse photography in real time! It was a magnificent experience that I have never seen before. I guess when a flower only lasts one day it has to be quick.

How did he get them to pose?

Our freinds Bob and Howard love animals of all kinds. Dogs, guinea pigs, a cat , rabbits and chickens lead a pampered life at their house. Howard had Frances take this picture in honor of the 4th of July. The chickens are red, white and blue by their type names if not actual color. I think it is a great picture!I pledge 2.jpg

Hijacked!

In the interest of showing off my father's work to its best advantage, I've redesigned his website. Dad's an amazing artist who loves light and color and I'm the daughter who lives in Japan and builds websites (among other things).

So welcome to the new improved Grandfather Philip's Stained Glass. We both hope you like it.

New entries will appear on this main page for 45 days, then make their way to the Sections list to the left. To see all the glass art, click on Glass Gallery. To peek at unfinished projects and Dad's comments on process and manufacturing, read through Glass Studio Notes. Entries like this one, not relating to glass at all, appear in Not About Glass.

From here on, this site is Dad's show and I'm going to get out of the way.
